RADIUS is delighted to host the presentation Arts, Poetry, and Ecology: Creating a World Worth Living In by current artist-in-residence at The Ekard Residency Rita Ponce de León, in collaboration with eco-poet Yaxkin Melchy Ramos.
¡Que el corazón tome la palabra! Vamos a reunirnos para compartir nuestros testimonios ecológicos y con nuestros cuerpos y voces conocer cómo se siente elaborar juntos una ecología del corazón.*
* May the heart now take the floor! Let’s come together to share our ecological testimonies, and with our bodies and voices, discover how it feels to create an ecology of the heart together.
SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
⌀ Rita Ponce de León Salazar understands her work as a way to get involved in situations that, through a focus on learning and participation, leads her to the recognition of a substantially “bond-centering” world, where ephemeral encounters are potentially meaningful. She keeps close to practices such as butoh dance and aikido, and often participates in workshops that promote the movement of the body to give rise to a certain type of wisdom and collective knowledge. She pours this diversity of experiences into drawings to share them in the form of visual essays.
⌀ Yaxkin Melchy is a Mexican-Peruvian poet, researcher, editor, and translator of Japanese poetry with Quechua heritage. He has a Ph.D. in Humanities from the University of Tsukuba (2023) and a Master’s in Asian and African Studies with a specialty in Japan from El Colegio de México (2018). Since 2015 he has focused on Ecopoetics from a “heart” perspective based on Indigenous American and East Asian peoples’ designs of relationships.
