OPEN MONUMENTS DAY 2023
Visit RADIUS during Open Monuments Day Delft in the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September. RADIUS, center for contemporary art and ecology, is located in the pump house with accompanying underground clean water bassin that used to store two million liters of wate. Both pump house and water bassin were realized in 1918, as an expansion to the Delft water tower from 1896 (listen to an audio introduction here). Both locations have the status of a national monument. The opening of the art center in 2022 has also given the water tower a public function again.
During Open Monuments Day 2023, both the water tower and the underground art center are freely accessible to the public. Two exhibitions can be visited at RADIUS: the solo exhibition THE PORTAL by artist Sissel Marie Tonn and the group exhibition RADICAL SYMBIOSIS: SOCIAL LIFE WITH MICROBES. The last exhibition has been specially developed in the light of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek year, and presents the work of ten artists around microbial worlds.
