DIWA SPORA / FOREST NYMPH*S : A CONVERSATION ON QUEER ECOLOGY
This event brings two boundary questioning performances into conversation through shared questions centered around queer ecology, more-than-human collaboration and interconnectedness.
KOPU COLLECTIVE works through collectivity as both method and way of life, drawing on lumbung practice, the Autonomous Kitchen Council and communal practices rooted in care, resource sharing, responsibility and solidarity. Their performance FOREST NYMPH*S explores the dissolution of the perceived boundary between human and nature, asking what it might mean to relate to our environment through the erotic. Inspired by Audre Lorde’s Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power, the work foregrounds process, mutual dependence and the possibility of imagining other ways of living together.
PSY PRIESTESS, the project of Chicago-born, Netherlands-based artist Camille Balingit, sits at the crossroads of the mystical and the mechanical. Drawing on her Filipino and Czech heritage, she builds hypnotic soundscapes of ethereal melodies layered over ritualistic rhythm, blending acoustic instrumentation with electronic production to channel the physical and spiritual energy of the places she calls home. In her work DIWA SPORA, fungal networks and subterranean rhythms are translated into immersive soundscapes. Blending electronic synthesis with ritualistic structure, the project draws on ancestral knowledge and contemporary technique to evoke interconnection, growth, and nature's hidden energies. In performance, the boundary between musician and organism begins to dissolve and mycelium becomes an active participant in the performance bringing electronic music into conversation with ancestral knowledge and the mysterious networks beneath the forest floor.
Following the performances, moderator Ayomide Jasmine Chinemerem Ikenga Eniola (AYO), a shapeshifting multidisciplinary artist, whose work coalesces ancestral veneration with environmental activism and community organising, will bring the artists together for a conversation and Q&A on queer ecology, co-creation and the possibilities of art as a boundary dissolving practice of relation.
