BECOMING HOLO
As part of the exhibition WE ARE ALL HOLOBIONTS!, RADIUS has the pleasure of inviting you to a holobiont field trip workshop. Guided by Helen Weeres and Wouter Engelbart, this workshop explores by what means, through both writing and drawing, we as humans can become more aware of the forms of life that live in, on and around us, in order to awaken our inner holobiont.
The idea of the holobiont makes our coexistence with other organisms, phenomena and landscapes palpable. A holobiont is an innkeeper whose body functions as a host for other forms of life. This innkeeper lives together with these other forms of life, or even lives thanks to these others. This begs the question: Where do I end and where does the other begin? Because without bacteria, fungi and viruses, people cannot live—you too are a holobiont!
⌀ Helen Weeres (they/them) has a background in poetry, Literary & Cultural Analysis and Gender & Sexuality studies, and works in the arts together with regenerative farmers, scientists and other artists. Poetry is at the core of Helen’s practice which mostly revolves around the relationship between humans and soil.
⌀ Wouter Engelbart (he/him) is the founder of Platform DIS, an artistic organisation that explores ecological issues through visual arts. He has a background in fine arts, socio-artistic projects and education. Within his practice, Wouter strives to create ‘free time’ to research the world around him guided by eco-socio-artistic practices.
