Presentation and Film Screening SPUN & THIS ENTANGLED LAND
Presentation by Dr. Toby Kiers and film screening of This Entangled Land by Annabel Howland
SPUN (Society for the Protection of Underground Networks) is a scientific research organisation founded to map mycorrhizal fungal communities and advocate for their protection. SPUN is building a global database of mycorrhizal diversity to help drive innovation in underground climate and biodiversity science. In collaboration with researchers, campaigners and local communities, SPUN aims to accelerate efforts to protect underground ecosystems largely absent from biodiversity and climate agendas. Dr. Toby Kiers, Executive Director and Chief Scientist of SPUN, will present the organisation, discuss the urgencies they are tackling around the world, and talk about their most recent projects.
After the presentation, artist Annabel Howland will present her film This Entangled Land, which explores the diverse meanings and impacts of mycorrhizal fungi as well as the consequences of a logging road through the state of Sarawak in Borneo.
